Hello friends,
Trying to navigate the business side of doing artwork is the hardest part for me. Here is an update on what I'm doing, and a candid discussion of why I'm going at it this way:
I have overhauled my fine art print selections on my website. I use a print-on-demand service called Printique. They are on the pricey side, but I selected them because they offer super high-quality, art-gallery grade prints. My ideas is to offer heirloom-quality artwork, something that will look the best for framing and last a lifetime.
I have greatly simplified the size selections, limiting them to the aspect ratios that are closest to the 11x14 originals: 5x7, 8x10, 16x20, and 24x30. This way, the need to crop the image is minimal or eliminated.
I had applied a modest mark-up for myself, on top of the production cost, to try to make a living as an artist. Nevertheless, I have cut the prices across-the-board, in hope of making my work more accessible.
With the months of planning and weeks of work that typically go into a single art piece, the gallery-grade prints are much less expensive than I would have to charge for originals, to make a fair wage for my time and effort. The best part is, these Printique prints are almost indistinguishable from my originals, when I hold them side-by-side.
The prints are available on the gallery page of my website. The art products, such as T-shirt, coffee mugs and blankets, are on the "store" page of my site. Those items come through a print-on-demand service called Printful. Please comment with your ideas on what products and art pieces you'd like to see featured!
My site revamp is to help make way for my forthcoming art book and oracle cards, which is called Goddesses Among Us: The Art of Bryan Crowson, Volume One.
If you think the work I'm doing is worthwhile, please consider supporting me with a purchase!
Another update: I’ve create a “bio site” through Squarespace to showcase my social media and web links. Let me know what you think! See bio.site/artbybryancrowson
